Искажение формы кривой питающего напряжения может происходить за счет появления высокочастотных импульсов при коммутациях в сети, работе разрядников и т. д.
Резкое изменение напряжения в точке электрической сети, за которым следует восстановление напряжения до первоначального или близкого к нему уровня за промежуток времени до нескольких миллисекунд.

Кратковременное напряжение, характеризуемое быстрым подъемом значения напряжения до максимального и последующим более медленным снижением значения напряжения

Параметры импульсного напряжения- Импульсное напряжение Uимп в вольтах, киловольтах измеряют как максимальное значение напряжения при резком его изменении (длительность фронта импульса не более 5 мс).

Длительность импульса напряжения по уровню 0,5 его амплитуды tимп0,5 в микросекундах, миллисекундах измеряют следующим образом.
- Выделяют из общей кривой напряжения импульс напряжения и определяют амплитуду этого импульса Uимп.а в вольтах, киловольтах как максимальное значение импульса напряжения.
- Определяют моменты времени tн0,5, tк0,5 в микросекундах, миллисекундах, соответствующие пересечению кривой импульса напряжения горизонтальной линией, проведенной на половине амплитуды импульса, в микросекундах, миллисекундах.

Вычисляют Δtимп0,5 по формуле:
Δtимп0,5 = tк0,5 - tн0,5
